Each of the 32 cells in a kit is extra deep – ideal for cultivating and propagating most plants – including those with long taproots. Another great feature of these RooTrainers is their clamshell-like design. Simply remove a single row and open up the cells for easy inspection of moisture levels or root progress, as well as convenient removal of young plants that are ready for transplanting. In order to minimize disturbance to delicate roots while transplanting (and to protect the other seedlings in the tray), each row of 4 cells is a separate functional unit called a ‘book’ that may be separated from the system and opened independently of the other rows. This feature is highly beneficial when planting crops in succession, or when you only have time to plant out a few of the seedlings. Kits are reusable season after season, year after year.
