Espresso Oyster Indoor Grow Kit (Pleurotus ostreatus)
It is easy to become moderately obsessed with edible fungi growing after you start raising the Pearl Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) on little more than spent coffee grounds. This simple kit includes a mixture of sterilized sawdust and natural grains inoculated with live mycelia, which then get mixed into your container of used espresso or percolator grounds. If coffee isn’t your thing, this patch will also thrive on other high-lignin materials, including shredded newspaper, cardboard, waste hulls from agriculture, and even straw. With this fast growing species, fruiting can be as soon as 2-3 weeks. Normally, the entire growing medium needs to be sterilized to minimize the growth of other fungi, but the piping hot steam during the brewing process seems to solve that dilemma. Comes with complete instructions. This mushroom grows and spawns in a wide temperature range (55-75˚F) and is suitable for growing indoors in virtually all regions of the country. Species is native to North America. Substrate Tip: If you are not able to obtain a free bucket of grounds from your local coffee shop, trying freezing your spent grounds daily, until you have amassed a sufficient quantity. The freezer will keep them growing mold and other microbes.
