Place in a partly sunny region of your yard so that the black color assists in the absorption of heat from the sun – higher temperatures will increase the rate of decomposition, assuming adequate moisture and oxygen is present.

Use a shaft-styled pile turner for vertically churn the compost pile, breaking up stagnant air pockets and bringing the beneficial microbes present in greater concentration in the lower levels up to the surface where new scraps are found.
