The Nature’s Head Dry Composting Toilet is a user-friendly, patented design that pre-separates solids from liquids, allowing for greatly increased holding capacity and odor prevention when compared to other composting toilets. More infrequent emptying means less maintenance time for you. A standard-size seat has been molded with safety and comfort in mind, while the off-white granite color blends into most bathroom decors. The hand crank agitator in the base section helps speed up the natural composting process. A trap door and lever provide visual containment of solids.
Because the liquids are diverted into a separate, translucent container, solids are not pooling in stagnant slop (as they do in common outdoor latrines), so the foul odors normally associated with toilets never develop. This is not the case with virtually all other brands. One of the added benefits of this system is that lack of chemical inputs – you do not have to expend any money purchasing accelerators or digesters – all you need is inexpensive garden peat or coir (pre-moistened) that is added to the compost basin as bedding. Alternately, brown shredded leaves may be used, making the system 100% sustainable.
To access and empty the solids a convenient slip hinge and dual side latches allow for easy removal of the seat portion. Even when completely full, the bottom section weighs less than 16 lbs and can be easily lifted by one person, once the bracket knobs are released. The compost basin can hold the solids from 60-80 uses before it needs to be emptied.
